The Collars & Coats Gala Ball

Edward Lloyd

Four legged stars of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home walked the glittering red carpet, with their two legged star admirers, at the Evolution in London's Battersea Park.

The  Ball was an extraordinary and glamorous event, with 50 very well behaved rescue dogs forming The Doggie Guard Of Honour and stealing the show, in front of a battery of TV cameras and press.

This major annual event in the social calendar raises funds for this happy rescue home, where a dedicated team care for its optimistic residents.  Care and attention and rehoming is the object of the exercise, with 9,000 dogs and cats cared for last year.  Battersea Ambassador Paul O'Grady would take every animal home, if he could.

The world famous Battersea Dogs & Cats Rescue Home operation is overseen by Chief Executive Claire Horton.  The cost of £18million per year is supported by charitable donations, and receives no government funding.

Among the celebrities and high profile supporters enjoying the Laurent Perrier Champagne, fine dining and entertainment, were Battersea Ambassadors Amanda Holden and Paul O' Grady, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Cheska Hull, supermodel David Gandy, Jonathan and Katrina Shalit, The Hon Daniel and Becky Brennan, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood, Laura Whitmore, Jackie St Clair and Nicky Clarke.  Violinist Vanessa Mae was among the electrifying acts on stage.
