Lara Stone with David Walliams

David Walliams has accepted substantial undisclosed damages from News Group Newspapers, former publishers of the News Of The World newspaper, for hacking his phone. Typically, he will donate the settlement to Comic Relief to fund a Kenyan orphanage. Journalist Dan Evans admitted intercepting the actor's voicemail.

Although a well known actor, the talented star likes to keep his private life out of the public eye.  Married to the supermodel Lara Stone for four years, they have one son Alfred.  He was particularly distressed that personal information was becoming known very quickly, leading to considerable distrust.

Born David Williams in 1971, the selfless charity fundraiser grew up in Banstead in Surrey, was educated at Reigate Grammar School, and went on to study drama at Bristol University. On joining Equity, he discovered there was already an actor David Williams, and changed his name to Walliams.  Among the Britain's Got Talent Judge's considerable achievements, he co-wrote and co-starred with Matt Lucas in the BBC1 sketch shows Little Britain from 2003 to 2005.

He is the fastest growing children's author in the UK, with more than 4 million copies sold. In addition, his books have been translated into 40 languages. He is known to love the beautiful illustrations, the magical worlds, and the fantastical journeys they take you on.

In 2006, the comedian swam 22 miles across the English Channel in 10 hours, raising £1million for Sport Relief.

In September 2012 he swam the 140 miles of the River Thames from Lechlade to Westminster, raising £2million for Sport Relief. During the eight gruelling days in very cold water, he suffered severe pain, sickness, diarrhoea, and insect bites, while swallowing the bacteria laden water. A short while in, potential hypothermia forced him to don a wet suit. Inspired by his Dad Peter and Mum Kathleen, his wife Lara followed in a support boat. Thousands of supporters lined the river banks, and kept him going with Victoria sponge to fuel the 8,000 calories a day he was burning.  Wrapped in the Union Jack at Westminster, he admitted the challenge had nearly killed him.

David Walliams is a truly remarkable Englishman.
