Esther RantzenLifelong campaigner and broadcaster Esther Rantzen, 74 is to be become a Dame in the New Year's Honours List for services to charity.

Well deserved, the campaigner presented the TV series That's Life for 20 years, founded ChildLine, and two years ago The Silver Line for the lonely elderly, and through the charities, has turned peoples lives around.

Dave West murdered by his son

David West, 44, has been charged with the murder of his father, the flamboyant nightclub owner Dave West Senior, 70,  after stabbing him in a drunken row.
Dave West died of a single knife wound at his London St James's home in Ormond Yard, Jermyn Street, where neighbour Stephen Fry reported screams.

Mostly recognisable in his trademark Italian pink suits, the entrepreneur patronised balls and polo parties, often bidding generously for charitable auction lots.  He rose from market trader to head a £100million empire.

The Collars & Coats Gala Ball

Four legged stars of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home walked the glittering red carpet, with their two legged star admirers, at the Evolution in London's Battersea Park.

The  Ball was an extraordinary and glamorous event, with 50 very well behaved rescue dogs forming The Doggie Guard Of Honour and stealing the show, in front of a battery of TV cameras and press.

This major annual event in the social calendar raises funds for this happy rescue home, where a dedicated team care for its optimistic residents.  Care and attention and rehoming is the object of the exercise, with 9,000 dogs and cats cared for last year.  Battersea Ambassador Paul O'Grady would take every animal home, if he could.

The world famous Battersea Dogs & Cats Rescue Home operation is overseen by Chief Executive Claire Horton.  The cost of £18million per year is supported by charitable donations, and receives no government funding.

The UK Sepsis Trust Inaugural Ball

Television News Anchor Mark Austin invited fellow presenters and friends, to the glittering inaugural fundraising Ball at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel, in London's Aldwych.

The UK Sepsis Trust was founded  by Chief Executive Dr Ron Daniels and fellow doctors, to raise awareness of the condition.  The doctors had all seen the devastating results of Sepsis, and wanted to fund an educational campaign.  

Among the guests present were Gary Lineker with his wife Danielle Bux, Piers Morgan, Dr Ellie Cannon, Dr Dawn Harper, Dr Hilary Jones, Charlotte Hawkins, Andrea Catherwood, Natasha Kaplinsky, Fay Ripley, Sean Fletcher, Nina Hossain, Steve Scott, Ranvir Singh, Dr Rosemary Leonard, QPR Chief Executive Philip Beard, and Sepsis Trust Ambassador Patrick Kane.  

Sepsis is the current term for septicaemia or blood poisoning.  The disease kills over 8 million people worldwide each year, more people than AIDs, prostrate and breast...

VICKI MICHELLE AND MICHAEL BUERK HEAD FOR THE JUNGLE

Two very nice and civilised people have been lured to the Australian jungle, to compete in ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'.

For a fee of approximately £120,000 each, 'Allo 'Allo's glamorous Vicki Michelle 63, and Veteran Newsreader Michael Buerk 68, are to enter the grisly programme, give up their considerable home comforts, and eat and bathe with jungle wildlife. Humiliation is the objective of the sadistic TV programme, but both contestants have the grit to overcome its unattractive spectacle, and the personality to manage their fellow contestants. Vicki Michelle has left her husband Graham Fowler with daughter Louise 24, and Michael Buerk his wife Christine, their inspirations for returning.
